New world order

New world order

Cryptocurrency is one of those 21st Century words, like streaming and download, that makes you think of a new world order in which things are available that we couldn't get before.

Then there's the word legacy which is in the same class as legend and icon. These came out of the marketing world. They sort of imply that some people are more useful than others, just like the word download means that some information is more useful than other information.

We kind of treat people and information the same now, I think. We save some and send others to the trash. It's not my original thought, that there are two kinds of people: the ones you friend, and the ones you block.

My late grandmother would understand the English, but she would never be able to understand the concept. Especially the concept that there are people who you would rather block than friend, but you friend them anyway because you need to know what they're up to.

At first I felt sorry for them, because they have to live in a world where bad people seem to do good things online. But then I realised that their world is their world, and at some stage they will have to click through it without me.

Abandoning your babies these days means leaving them alone on the information super highway. And even that sounds so old fashioned now. They feel like they are abandoning us, when they subscribe to things that we don't know about.

What happened to just booking a table at a cheap franchise, and sharing pizza?
